IBM AS400 Client Access 5.1

IBM AS400 Client Access by IBM is a Windows-based connectivity and management suite for accessing IBM i systems (formerly AS/400, iSeries, and System i). It provides everything end users, developers, and administrators need to work with IBM i applications and data from a PC—securely and efficiently.

Key capabilities include:

• 5250 terminal and printer emulation with configurable keyboard maps, macros, and SSL/TLS encryption
• Database access to Db2 for i through ODBC, OLE DB, and .NET providers for use with spreadsheets, BI tools, and custom applications
• Data Transfer utilities to move data to and from IBM i libraries and files, including CSV and Excel formats
• A Windows-based system management console (often known as iSeries/Operations Navigator) for managing users, jobs, messages, printers, spool files, devices, and the Integrated File System (IFS)
• Printer support, including 5250 printer emulation and Host Print Transform for printing to local or network printers
• File and IFS browsing for easy movement and organization of objects and stream files
• Automation and scripting through macros, command-line tools, and APIs
• Security features such as SSL/TLS, certificate management, and optional single sign-on via Kerberos

IBM AS400 Client Access streamlines day-to-day operations—running green-screen applications, transferring data between IBM i and desktop tools, administering system resources, and integrating IBM i data into modern workflows. While many organizations still rely on it, IBM’s current cross-platform successor is IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS).
